Hp Activation Key
Hello, We bought a new HP Elitebook 8470w, it came with Win 7 pro. There was no Windows sticker, So I use magic jelly bean to get the product key. John Cage String Quartet Pdf Printer there. Then, I installed our own image and when I was trying to activate it using the OEM product key, it gave me an error: Code: 0xC004E003 Description: The Software Licensing Service reported that license evaluation failed. I called Microsoft and they said that the manufacturer is blocking the product key. So I called HP and they told me I cannot use the product key unless I install their image (with all the bloatwares included in it). I've done this so many times, I always install our own image and use the laptop's oem product keys.
I'm wondering if anyone is aware with this new deal, Manufacturers selling notebooks without the Windows stickers and locking them to their image. Thanks and have a good day. My brother got an HP last year and i was uninstalling the HP launch box and another and then it always come back, I haven't had the time to fix that so i guess it can be done but it will just take time. Thanks to @luckychu for responding amazingly promptly for additional information which I used to review his support case and to discuss the issue with one of HP's support specialists. As I indicated to @luckychu, I would share my discussion as it may be helpful to others. @luckychu's confusion about a process that worked many times previously and not currently is understandable as the process has changed. Here is a summary of my discussion with HP's support staff: 1.
For this product, the product key no longer appears on a sticker on the computer. It is built into the BIOS. Staff confirmed that the product key in the BIOS is for HP's image.
Staff said if the customer is using the company's image, the company should have a product key for the customer to use. If there is none, the customer is advised to contact Microsoft. I informed staff Microsoft was called.
If I heard correctly, Microsoft can provide the customer with a valid product key to use. If Microsoft doesn't offer to provide a valid key or if the customer's company doesn't have one, staff offered that one can be purchased from Microsoft. If there was no notification of the process change, I do regret this. Members, thank you for your informative input.

The OEM stickers that used to come with an key on them (at least in recent years) were never actually intended to be used for activation. Generally they allowed a single activation as a backup, however since the invention of SLIC and embedding an activation key within the bios (circa Windows Vista days) - OEM's have used a single 'golden' key which will activate only their hardware with Microsoft. It's actually an internal activation that doesn't reach out to Microsoft for confirmation. You simply have to use the version of Windows that comes with the machine (with the bloatware) or use a Window disk (provided by the OEM) and install a fresh version of Windows.
