My computer was custom built with Vista Home Premium. When I connect my camcorder via USB, the computer tries searching for the driver, but fails. When I go to My Computer - the camera does not appear there.

After about 2 hrs with Canon helpdesk and trying everything in their book, we determined that the camera itself is functioning properly, its just for some reason it is not being recognized by Vista. I also borrowed a friend's laptop to see if it will work there, and it did. The camera was recognized as soon as it was pluged in. That laptop wasnt custom built, so my inclination is that the problem is with my computer. Any ideas as to why a computer with Vista installed by manufacturer (ex Dell) will recognize the camera, but a computer with certified Vista software bought through eCost, cannot see the camera.
