Canon 5d Mark 2 Raw Codec

I can do what I want with RAW's with LR and CS6, as well as DPP, but it would be handy to have a RAW codec like I have for the 7D. Regards, For what it is worth, I am replying to you on a Win 8 laptop during a photo trip. The 64-bit OS reads.CR2 files for the 5D2 and NEF files for the D800E. I loaded DPP & NX2 for viewing and pretend editing the files (until I get them home for real editing). Not sure whether installing these programs also updated the OS codecs or Win 8 does it natively.

Canon's DPP will display. Hp Compaq Pd1068p Drivers. CR2 RAW files and convert them to.JPEG if you like. Since.CR2 is a proprietary RAW file format exclusive to Canon, I wouldn't expect Windows Photos or Explorer to display files in this format natively.
Windows is very slow to introduce new codecs for newer models. Some months ago, they finally produced a series of Codecs, but they even managed to miss some older cameras (I got the Codec for my 5D1 and for the E-M5, but not for the older E-P3. When contacted they said the culprit was Olympus who hadn't delivered the Codec. Now the newer 6D doesn't show thumbnails either.
Inspite of the fact that I have installed all the new Canon drivers and the last Windows codecs available (some months old only). May be we should do a search on the Canon download section and see whether they have issued some codecs for the most recent cameras. Some time ago I updated to Windows 7 64-bit and I was slightly miffed by the fact that my existing.CR2 raw codec would no longer work. Since 64-bit systems have been around for quite a while, and 64-bit seems to be the future route for all platforms, I've been patiently waiting for a 64-bit Canon codec to appear.
I emailed Canon support (Nov 2011) to enquire if this was likely to be available soon, and received the following reply: 'Thank you for contacting Canon Support. In response to your query regarding a 64bit codec, kindly be advised there has not ever been a 64bit codec previously, and most likely there will not be one developed.' So now you know.
It's nice to know that Canon are keeping their finger on the pulse and their eye to the future. Despite the fact that all other Canon software is 64-bit compatible, it appears that to integrate a RAW codec with Windows Explorer, we are forced to use the Microsoft codec Unfortunately the most recent Windows codec version (1734.1104, Dec 2012) despite supporting the 5DIII, does not yet offer support for 6D.CR2 files. Remember also, that you need Windows Imaging Component (WIC, such as Microsoft Windows Live Photo Gallery) installed for the Microsoft codec to function. Less than $15, and is compatible with both 32 and 64bit Windows from XP onwards. I have no connection with this company, just a satisfied customer. I haven’t got a 6D, but you can download a 15 day trial to check compatibility.
